
A meeting has been held at the headquarters of the CMC on the morning of Tuesday 16/2/2010 includes the CEO of the Commission, Dr. Burhan Shawi and Mr. Michael Christie the director of Reuters agency in Iraq.
At the beginning of the meeting, Dr. Burhan Shawi talked a bout the misunderstanding that occurred with the agency, which pushed it to publish the new that refers to the release of the Commission for (the new rules of mass media in Iraq, which restore the ghost of "policy muzzling") on its website on 4/February/2010, as he stated that the aim of these rules is to regulate the media work in Iraq, and try to create a media environment committed to international rules, and maintaining the independence of the channels in its editing of the news.
Mr. Michael stated that there are fears for many of the foreign agencies, from the misuse of rules issued by the Commission which leads to delaying and obstructing the work of these agencies.
Dr. Burhan Shawi , from his side confirm that the Commission understands such fears, especially when it issued by foreign institutions which professional in media profession, but at the same time not abusing these regulations because they were found to organize the work of media institutions and not vise versa, and in describing us as a regulated entity for the media work in Iraq, We confirmed the necessity of the commitment of all the mass media in the Commission's rules.
Mr. Michael stated the attention of Reuters agency a bout what is happening in Iraq, and its commitment to the rules of any country which it works in it. He also wondered a bout the possibility of the entry of foreign agencies to Iraq to cover emergency events such as natural disasters or other.
And the CEO answered this question "We seek to facilitate the work of the mass media in general, through the granting of licenses to any media entity which trying to cover what is happening in Iraq."
At the end of the meeting Mr. Michael expressed his thanks to Dr. Shawi, because he provided an opportunity to remove the misunderstandings that happened, also confirmed that the agency is ready to provide assistance to the Commission, and its commitment to all rules for regulating the media work in Iraq.
