Dr. Burhan Shawi announced about Conference to cancel laws that are inconsistent with the freedom of media and suggests establishing Iraqi satellite

The CEO of the CMC, Dr. Burhan Shawi announced to Al-Sabah newspaper in 16.05.2010 that the Commission agreed with the Supreme Judicial Council to hold a major conference in Iraq, calling to cancel the laws which are incompatible with freedom of the press and the media «which were not applied by the outgoing government, revealing the Commission’s revenues amounted about to 50 million dollars monthly and the CEO of the Commission Burhan Shawi reduced during a private meeting with «Al-Sabah» which will publish its details later from the feasibility of charters of media honor as it is not obliged, calling to replace it with new legal legislations to do justice to the media in Iraq ». He said that the Commission’s revenues reached about 50 million dollars monthly and thus it comes in the second level after the oil ministry supposing using it to buy a satellite for Iraq and support the economic and media projects, also he called for the necessity of legislate the media and press law. Dr. Shawi clarified that the Commission’s dividend reach its amount to 33 percent of the revenues of Kalimat and Itisalat Companies and 18 percent of the income of Zain Iq and 16 percent of Corek Company and 15 percent of Asia Cell Company, to reach the Commission's revenues monthly, about 50 million dollars. He pointed out that 10 percent of these revenues give the right to the Commission to dispose of them while the remaining money go to the state’s fund, stressing that this money could support many of the projects and the national economy. The Chief of the Commission supposed to invest this money to buy a satellite for Iraq (Iraq SAT) which leased to the Iraqi satellite channels, noting that the Commission aims to invest up to ten percent allocated to it to develop the media projects as establishing Institute of telecommunications of the media cadres. He explained that the laws of the media in the world is composed of two parts, civil law and criminal, the first one to ensure the civil rights to access to the information and all that serves the press work while the second one to persuade the media and press who exceed on the civil freedoms or insulting nationalities and religions. The CEO of the Commission Burhan Shawi pointed to the possibility of finding multiple formula to support various projects such revenues, glancing furtively at what obstruct the implement of this suggestions which limited staffing of the Commission and not implying a low for it till now, and calling all the media and press to think to find formula projects to develop the media work in the country, calling for the necessity to speed up the legislate of the media and press laq and putting codes of media work in Iraq.
